PlanetHoster review (2026): real prices, renewal and weak spots

PlanetHoster review, plans read on 18 Oct 2026: Web Project Standard at 7.99 EUR/month, 5.49 EUR/month promo for 24 months then 19.99 EUR, 10 GB NVMe, data centers in Paris, Lausanne or Montreal, 60-day money-back. What holds up, what does not, and who it suits.

PlanetHoster is a French-Canadian web host founded in 2007 that comes up again and again when people look for hosting in Europe or Canada with support that actually answers. This review answers the questions you ask before ordering: what do you really pay, over how long, and what could make you regret it?

To put numbers on your own case (number of sites, how long you keep it, VAT), use our web hosting cost calculator over 1 to 5 years: it adds up promo and renewal for every plan.

How we wrote this review

Everything below was read on PlanetHoster's website on 18 October 2026: plan pages, the table of included services, the FAQ. Prices are those shown in euros on the French version of the site. We did not run speed benchmarks or time their support ourselves: those measurements take weeks and comparable sites, and we would rather say so than publish an invented number. The satisfaction and uptime statistics quoted below are the ones PlanetHoster publishes, presented as such. Our methodology explains what we check.

PlanetHoster runs an affiliate program and we earn a commission if you sign up through our links. That does not change your price and did not stop the "weak spots" section below.

Plans and their real prices

PlanetHoster groups its web hosting in an ecosystem called The World, split into "Web Projects". A project is one site (or application) with its own resources, walled off from other customers.

The same day, a site banner also offered 25% off for new customers with a promo code; that kind of offer changes often, so check it when you order.

What the table means in euros. On Ultra the promotion is striking: 5.49 EUR per month for two years on a plan listed at 19.99 EUR. Over three years that is about 131.76 EUR for the first two years (24 x 5.49 EUR), then 239.88 EUR for the third (12 x 19.99 EUR). On Standard, the promotion covers a pack of 10 projects and the renewal shown is the same 19.99 EUR per month. In other words, year three costs nearly four times the monthly price of the first two. This is not hidden, PlanetHoster prints it next to the headline price, which is more honest than many competitors. But that is the number to put in your budget.

What holds up

Per-project isolation. On classic shared hosting, one greedy neighbor slows the whole server. PlanetHoster walls off every account with CloudLinux LVE and hardens permissions with CageFS: each project gets its share of CPU and RAM, and a hole exploited on a neighbor's account does not give access to your files. It is the brand's most concrete technical argument.

Choice of data center. PlanetHoster runs its own infrastructure on three sites, Paris, Lausanne and Montreal, described as Tier III and Tier IV, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certified. You choose per project. A site aimed at France stays in the EU under GDPR; a store selling in Quebec can live in Montreal; a project that prefers Swiss jurisdiction can go to Lausanne.

What is included without add-ons. Free domain for year one (15 extensions, including .fr, .eu, .be, .ch and .ca), Let's Encrypt SSL, unlimited email with antispam, off-site backups kept for 45 days, Redis and Memcached, a ModSecurity application firewall, and free migration from your old host. On the technical side: PHP 5.6 to 8.5, Node.js, Python, Ruby, SSH, Git and WP-CLI. Few shared hosts leave that much freedom.

Ultra for e-commerce. LiteSpeed Enterprise, LSCache and LiteMage, guaranteed semi-dedicated resources, and above all Auto Peak Power, which multiplies the project's RAM and CPU by 2.5 in one click for Black Friday or a TV spot. For a WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Magento store whose revenue depends on staying up under load, it is a precise answer to a precise problem.

The 60-day guarantee. Every plan is refundable for 60 days, domain excluded. That is twice the usual French norm (30 days at o2switch). In practice it leaves time to migrate a site, run it for a real month and decide.

Weak spots

Renewal. This is the main one, detailed above: the 24-month promotion is generous, what follows much less so. If you only have one small site, compare the three-year cost with a plan whose renewal price is low.

Entry-plan storage. 10 GB of NVMe is enough for a brochure site or a reasonable WordPress blog, but a media-heavy site or several large mailboxes will fill it. The 50 GB of included S3 storage helps for static files, provided you set up your site to use it. o2switch, by contrast, advertises unlimited storage.

N0C instead of cPanel. The in-house panel is light and works on mobile, but if you have ten years of cPanel habits you will have to relearn where things are. Not a flaw in itself, a switching cost.

Self-reported figures. PlanetHoster claims 96.8% satisfied customers out of 7,188 verified reviews, 99.99% uptime over twelve months against a 99.90% contractual SLA, support response under 15 minutes and TTFB under 200 ms. These figures come from the host; we did not measure them. The public status page and the 60-day guarantee are the two ways to check them yourself.

PlanetHoster vs o2switch

This is the comparison everyone makes, and we cover it in detail in our o2switch vs PlanetHoster comparison. In short: o2switch sells one price, unlimited storage and a data center in Clermont-Ferrand, with a 30-day guarantee; PlanetHoster sells isolation, a choice of data center and a 60-day guarantee. The first wins on the price of a small site, the second on handling load and flexibility.

Who is it for in 2026?

Our verdict

PlanetHoster ticks what matters most in a web host and only shows up at the first incident: infrastructure it runs itself, walled-off projects, 45 days of backups and a real 60-day right to change your mind. Its headline price is very low, its renewal price is not, and it says so openly. Our advice: take the 24-month promotion if your project has commercial value or if you host several sites, use the guarantee period to test support with a real question, and put the renewal date in your calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Is PlanetHoster a good web host?

On what can be checked publicly, yes, especially for French-speaking projects: the company has run its own infrastructure since 2007, with data centers in Paris, Lausanne and Montreal, isolates every project (CloudLinux LVE and CageFS), keeps backups for 45 days and refunds within 60 days. Its limits are the capped storage on the entry plan (10 GB), a renewal price well above the promotional price, and an in-house control panel (N0C) instead of cPanel.

How much does PlanetHoster cost after the promotion?

On 18 October 2026 the Web Project Standard was listed at 7.99 EUR per month, with a new-subscription promotion at 5.49 EUR per month for 24 months on a pack of 10 projects, renewal shown at 19.99 EUR per month. The Web Project Ultra follows the same pattern: 5.49 EUR per month for 24 months, then 19.99 EUR. The Web Project Plus is listed at 12.99 EUR per month. Budget over three years, not over the first month.

Does PlanetHoster's 60-day guarantee cover everything?

It covers every hosting plan but not the domain name, which is free in year one and therefore not refunded. That is the usual market rule. Sixty days is twice what o2switch offers, for example.

Does PlanetHoster use cPanel?

No. PlanetHoster built its own panel, N0C, which groups domains, DNS, email, MySQL databases, FTP accounts and certificates, and works from a smartphone. If you are used to cPanel, expect some adjustment; migration from another host is advertised as free and handled by their team.

Are PlanetHoster's satisfaction and uptime figures verified?

Not by us. PlanetHoster's website claims 96.8% satisfied customers out of 7,188 verified reviews, 99.99% uptime over twelve months and a support response time under 15 minutes. These are figures published by the host itself: we quote them as such and recommend testing support during the guarantee period.
